Last summer, in the days following the murder of George Floyd, Americans watched as Black Lives Matter protests in the South turned on Confederate monuments, vandalizing them, tearing them down, spraying them with graffiti with messages to end police brutality or to call out the racism that is tearing our country apart.Īs a result, several municipalities across the South began to take local action to remove their monuments, often located on courthouse lawns or along public thoroughfares. ![]()
